PolyTrack controls: driving and editor keys

Driving is four keys and a restart, and the client says so on the first screen you ever see. The editor is where the keyboard actually matters: eleven bindings, and two of them are the ones players miss — height and rotation.

What the game tells you before you press anything

IN-GAME

The first drive opens with a panel over the start line:

Welcome to PolyTrack! Use W A S D or the arrow keys to start driving.

Two more prompts fire during the first race:

Collect the remaining checkpoints! [1/3] — you can see how many you have collected in the bottom-left corner.

Press T / Backspace to try again and improve your time.

So the client itself documents T and Backspace as restart keys. Neither appears in the store listing’s control list, which names only Enter and R.

Watching a run back

IN-GAME

The replay viewer has its own controls, none of which the listing mentions:

  • a four-direction camera pad in the lower-left corner
  • a rewind button, play / pause, and a scrub bar you can drag — the yellow ticks on it are the checkpoints
  • 图表 (chart) opens the speed graph, 关闭 (close) returns
  • 返回 (back) leaves the viewer

The editor table is also the listing’s, reproduced as their claim. We have not opened the editor yet, so every line in it is unverified against the client.

Touch and gamepad

The listing says the game runs on desktop, mobile and tablet, and that the client is landscape-only. Mobile shows on-screen controls; we have not captured what they look like, so the layout of the touch pad is still NEEDS CHECK.

NEEDS CHECK

Whether a gamepad is supported at all, and whether the editor is usable with touch, are both open. The store tags mention neither.

Two bindings, one workflow

Height and rotation are the two keys people do not find on their own. A track built without them is flat: ramps come out as walls, and elevation is impossible. Z and C change the height at which the next piece lands; R and Space spin whatever is in your hand. Once those two are in muscle memory, the rest of the editor is pointing and clicking.

Restart is the other binding worth learning early. Enter or R, one key, and the listing calls the fast retry one of the things players like about the game. In a time trial where the mistake costs half a second, the reset has to cost less than the mistake.
